Catholic education in Mortlake dates back to 1951, when the school, staffed by the Sisters of Mercy, opened with 54 students from Prep to Year 2. Since 1990 lay teachers have staffed St Colman's being true to the School's Vision Statement: 'We Welcome, We Learn, We have Faith, We Care'. Central to the education provided at St Colman's is the development of the whole child-academically, socially, spiritually and physically.
All aspects of the curriculum are explored, being taught in a professional manner using modern methodology and resources set within beautiful surroundings. Some special features of our school program include: small multi-age classes with computers and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms; an emphasis on developing literacy and numeracy; an integrated inquiry approach to learning; specialist music, art, library and Indonesian programs; a school camps program; a comprehensive Religious Education program that is lived by staff and children; and local community service opportunities. St Colman's is the best kept secret in western Victoria!
