Grandparents share stories of life and learning at St Patrick’s Primary School, Ballarat
More than 60 grandparents visited St Patrick’s Primary School, Ballarat today to share their stories as part of a school-wide focus on ‘story’ and recognition of the school’s centenary on its Drummond St site.
‘Today has been incredibly heartwarming and enriching for students, grandparents and staff alike,’ Principal Ben Shields said.
‘Throughout the morning rooms were filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the sharing of cherished memories.
‘Grandparents recounted tales of their childhood, adventures, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
‘These narratives enrich our students’ understanding of history, culture, and the power of storytelling, as well as instilling a sense of community and belonging and bridging the gap between generations.
‘Our school focus on story in our centenary year has also included visits from renowned children’s authors, a variety of local excursions, and interactive sessions like today, where the narratives of important people in our lives, such as our grandparents, take centre stage.
‘More broadly, as we celebrate 100 years of Catholic education on our Drummond Street site, events like grandparents’ morning highlight the enduring values of family, community, and the importance of preserving and sharing our stories.
‘We continue our commitment to holistic education, where learning extends beyond textbooks and classrooms, fostering a deeper appreciation for human experience and connection.
‘We are grateful for the warmth and generosity of the grandparents who were able to join us today, along with their rich contribution to the vibrant and dynamic learning environment of St Patrick’s,’ Ben Shields said.
