Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited (DOBCEL) schools are located within a diverse and geographically extensive diocese extending across Western Victoria, from the Murray River to the Southern Ocean. DOBCEL governs 56 parish schools, and 8 schools and colleges are governed by Religious Institutes or Ministerial Public Juridic Persons. DOBCEL partners with all schools in the diocese to promote Catholic identity, deliver quality learning, enable effective stewardship and nurture respectful and trusting relationships with the community.
As the administrative arm of DOBCEL, the role of Catholic Education Ballarat is to provide support, service and leadership to Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in the Diocese of Ballarat. We seek to engage with and influence the people who make a difference in schools. Our central purpose is to build capacity in Principals, Leaders, Teachers and Students to ensure the continuing development and growth of individuals.

Manager: Safeguarding and Standards
Fixed-term, full-time contract commencing January 2022
This is also a 12-month secondment opportunity for DOBCEL employees
We are seeking a collaborative and experienced leader to actively promote a culture of safety for children and young people across our Diocesan schools. This role will professionally partner with school Principals, school staff and Catholic Education Ballarat to lead the development and embedding of practical and informative child safe policies and procedures. Additionally, this role will support a healthy school culture through effective and respectful complaint resolution practices as issues arise more broadly.
As a leader, in a position of trust, the ideal person will provide sound advice and direction in the application of the Child Safe Standards and facilitate a timely, supportive and fair process for those participating in investigations and complaint resolution processes.
The Manager: Safeguarding and Standards will:
- have a strong understanding of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the role of the Commission for Children and Young People;
- support the continuous education of DOBCEL staff in child safety;
- lead the complaints management and investigation processes, ensuring procedural fairness;
- have excellent analytical and communication skills;
- interpret the Child Safe Standards into meaningful resources for DOBCEL;
- use their influence to promote a strong culture of child safety.
